EOP's Freshman Mentoring Program is an extension of the EOP Freshman Summer Academy to assist freshmen in their academic and social transition from high school to college during their first year at Buffalo State.
The Mentoring Program utilizes College Reading and Learning Association’s International Mentor Training Program certification as its guideline for hiring, training, and evaluating peer mentors, and the peer mentoring program. All freshmen are assigned upperclassmen mentors who are trained to assist students and provide extra support and guidance, in conjunction with the mentees assigned EOP counselor.
There are approximately 21-28 mentors, all EOP students, each having a caseload of 10-12 students. The goal of the program is to not only to assist freshmen with social and academic transition, but also to encourage involvement of the upperclassmen with the program and to provide leadership opportunities for their growth.
