Hello, my name is Chad McBean I am a junior hospitality administration major & future entrepreneur here at Suny Buffalo State University. I am from Spring Valley, New York, a small village hailing from the town of Ramapo. For as long as I can remember food has always been a passion and expressive medium for me. The ever-growing nature of my industry is inspiring and the passion and respect I have for it is something that I am extremely grateful for. I am currently in school refining my hard and soft skills to become a more well-rounded and proficient leader in my community. With the time that I've spent here at Buffalo State I have worked hard to distinguish myself in and out of the classroom. I’ve accomplished this by prioritizing my time, networking with different company heads, and most importantly learning from the vast pool of resources that the city of Buffalo has to offer. My goal is to continue to grow, refine my skills and push the envelope on what is deemed possible. I want more for myself and I'm completely alright with working hard to attain my goal. All my life I've been told and reminded that there is more to a person than what is merely on the outside. My mother taught me to dig deeper. She would always say that people deserve the greatest good that can be manifested. That looking into oneself is just as important as looking at oneself. My father garnered a similar philosophy; he would say the mind is our most precious faculty. He was always transparent when it came to education. Like my mother he believed that while greatness is already part of you it takes real effort to put that greatness to good use and make it manifest. Because of their strong convictions I adopted the same rite and attitude. Coming into college was rough in the beginning. It took time and self-realization to figure out what it is I wanted to become in the city of Buffalo. My answer after one semester was successful. To that I committed myself to my craft. I changed my habits, paid more attention, and spent more of my energy on uplifting myself and at the end of the day worked hard to maintain my momentum. This formula led me from being a student who was failing most of his courses into someone who is now comfortably capable at maintaining a 4.0 semester GPA average which I've done every semester since then. You can create success in many ways from my experience. It's all about your perspective and your mindset. Many times, we go through the days overlooking all the many accomplishments that we attain because we don't recognize them as “special” and worthy of praise. This is a problem because in doing that we rob ourselves of the joy that could push us to grow into a better version of ourselves. When it comes to being a elevated free thinker I always make sure to give my respect to my “Mastering the Academic Environment” class which was taught by Najja A. Bouldin who pushed his students to realize that they already possess the faculties to be great. He taught us that by taking hold of the agency that we all possess; we could create the futures that we wanted for ourselves if we were willing to work for it. His messages stuck and inspired me to be the person that I am today, someone I can be proud of.
